Yep, I shifted that way because right before the shifter rod broke, it had "fell" down to the point my boot wouldn't fit under it. I agree it was easier, however, if you miss the opportunity to down or upshift, which I did because you do have to apply some real pressure against the outside of the lever and if you do not apply enough your boot just slips right by, you can end up in neutral with too much rev, or let out the clutch and continue as fast as you were going. Either scenario could cause a real problem in heavy traffic. I am sure once you were used to such a style, this may not happen, but for me once the rod was fixed, I went back to the old sure fire method! Just my .02 worth! Happy riding!
